Challenge
The situation on site
International construction delivery under cross-cultural
conditions — managing site execution, quality control and daily
coordination with local subcontractors and a local team in a
market with different working practices, standards and
communication dynamics. The challenge was maintaining consistent
quality and execution discipline across RC structural works,
blockwork and finishing while adapting to local team structures
and ensuring that surveying accuracy and QA/QC standards remained
in line with project specifications regardless of the local
context.
Role & Actions
What I specifically did
01
Supervised daily structural works — foundations, columns,
slabs and staircases across all 6 residential towers —
ensuring execution followed approved drawings and structural
requirements.
02
Carried out surveying and setting-out for grids, levels and
key structural elements — ensuring execution accuracy before
works commenced on each structural activity.
03
Monitored blockwork, plaster and basic finishing activities —
checking that all works followed drawings, quality
requirements and specifications from the structural phase
through to finishes.
04
Coordinated with the project engineer and local foremen to
sequence activities and avoid delays on critical structural
items — keeping the programme moving across all towers
simultaneously.
05
Checked reinforcement installation, formwork and concrete
pours — raising any discrepancies to the senior engineer and
ensuring that no structural work was poured without proper
inspection.
06
Followed up with local subcontractors on manpower, work
fronts and material deliveries — resolving technical issues on
site while maintaining productive relationships with
cross-cultural teams.
07
Prepared site reports recording daily progress, highlighting
constraints and material shortages — providing the project
team with a clear and accurate picture of site status across
all towers.
08
Coordinated with local consultants or representatives for
inspections and clarifications — navigating the approval
process in an unfamiliar market while keeping works moving
forward.
